Native plant valued for its late summer blue flowers, Great Blue lobelia is best in mixed border plantings behind shorter plants or allowed to roam freely in natural settings. 1" long blue flowers in late August are bunched tightly at the tips of the unbranched stems and last for about a month. For best results avoid hot sun locations and make sure the plant is kept evenly moist. Plays well with other natives such as Cardinal flower, Joe Pye Weed (Eupatorium) and Sedges (Carex).
The brilliant red flowers of Cardinal Flower are a hummingbird and butterfly magnet! This native plant is happiest in consistently moist soil and will tolerate brief flooding; perfect for rain gardens and naturalizing near ponds and streams. Scarlet red, tubular flowers open in August at the top of the unbranched stems, blooming for several weeks. In favorable situations it may seed about.

Silene Regia, commonly called Royal Catchfly, is a Missouri native wildflower that occurs in dry, rocky soils in open woods, wood margins, and prairies. This clump-forming perennial boasts small clusters of 5-petaled, scarlet red flowers that appear in summer. Sticky calyx can trap or "catch" small insects, hence the common name.
Red Prince Weigela is draped in stunning clusters of red trumpet-shaped flowers along the branches from late spring to mid summer. It has forest green deciduous foliage. The pointy leaves do not develop any appreciable fall color.
